I would have to say that I’d like to write for The Cobert Report®!!!

Being part of the process of creating humor and satire on such an intellectual level that his show tends to adhere to is something I’d really enjoy. Coming from this idea of God given rights and crossing this with the perception of idealistic absolute truth and it’s almost certain a plethora of conflicts are bound to arise. The US being a nation was created with a foundation in mind of freedom and liberty for *all*, something the majority of people these days have a hard time truly grasping in my opinion. There is a strong level of misunderstanding and blatant disregard for human diversity in the fundamentalist control/power hungry individual creating issues that become most certainly good writing material .

For me I see great potential for the quick whit and unbound sarcasm of Cobert to be the perfect platform to take on these issues along with a heap of similar topics very effectively.

Cobert is basically the only character on his show so I’m going to have to go with him as the most difficult to write for. Being able to create scenarios that entertain and at the same time come from a perspective that drives the over all meaning home to people on both sides of the given issue could be somewhat difficult at times.

The current state of human affairs and world events, I can certainly see a future for Cobert, John and many other Comedy Central shows to continue on for a long time. In the same way that The Simpsons do.

With the right talent and motivation I think a “skit” comedy (in the same vein as MadTV) though, focused more on current events (especially all these “isms” at war with one another. Plots that really dig into the perceptions and ideology of different groups and individuals, exposing the futility of our situation when empathy and understanding take a back seat to hard line, unbending ideology.

Though Cobert would be great fun to right for, he is also the only one a person could right for the majority of the time on his show. Due to this I’d also like to add Mrs. Garrison and Cartman.

I tend to Identify with John Stewart and many of his guest most of the time.

As far as changes go, assuming I need to stay with my original choice of show I’d be writing for. I’d say the changes would have to do with Cobert’s interviewing method. It seems to me that he puts to much energy into playing the “fundi-conserive” that in many cases you end up getting little out of the conversation and many important issues get passed right over.

I think creating a few “news special” segments that focus on an important issue that week or maybe on exposing the misunderstanding and irrational direction created by any number of given situations. For instance propaganda being spread by corporate news channels or a politician and doing word on the street etc.. To sort of cross examine the variable in that given situation that is putting out said information.

I really think it would be interesting for the individual in this new news segment to be a character mimicked after al jazeera, with a twist to take that rather boring edge off of their production. Using this “correspondent” to present news feeds (for instance) from around the world where in so many cases you see a totally different opinion and feeling about what’s happening than you get from the media and politicians in the US. Even having Cobert using his uber conservativeness to comment on the subjects being presented by … maybe an Islamic woman in full garb ;)
